Local Festivites: our traditions

Osuna Fair (mayo)

Osuna Fair is a festival which takes place in May and was declared a festivity of National Tourist Interest in 2008 by the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Commerce and Sport.  It contributes to the development of the Andalusian traditional values and to promoting tourism in this town.

The century-old fair of May is celebrated in mid-May. The grand opening begins every year with “El Alumbrao” (official lighting), delighting the visitors with its innovative design.

Among the activities and events, we emphasize the horse ride that is held on Friday, starting from the majestic San Pedro St. until the “Real de la Feria”.  Their equestrian exhibitions also deserve to be mentioned.

One of the most important events that take place during the fair is the Bulfighting Fair, bringing together numerous personalities of the bullfighting world, each year attending some of the best bullfighters and cattle.

The fairground has the characteristics needed to enjoy the friendly atmosphere of those days. It is comprised of more than 30 “casetas”, including the “Caseta Municipal” where many concerts take place, moreover, we can highlight its numerous streets, such as  “Bulería”, “Seguirilla”, “Peteneras”, “Alegrías” or “Soleá”.

Finally, we cannot forget the so-called “calle del infierno”, where you can enjoy numerous exciting rides.

The Town Council of Osuna provides a bus service during those days to all the inhabitants and visitors so that they can enjoy the fair in an easy and comfortable way.

Festivity of Ntra. Sra. del Rosario de Fátima

Every June 13th the festivity of Ntra. Sra. Del Rosario de Fátima is celebrated coinciding with the “velá” which receives the same name.

The neighborhood of Fátima wished to have not only a decent housing, but a church and an image to worship, make petitions and thank for blessings.

In the 20th century the wish came true. Since then, the virgin of Fátima became the protector of this neighborhood.

During this festivity some activities take place, among them, we could highlight the solemn Eucharist in honour of the Virgin de Fátima and its procession accompanied by the music band of Osuna.

Festivity of Puerto de la Encina

This festival takes place during a weekend in June in honour of Virgen María Auxiliadora. In these patron festivity we must emphasize some sports activities, concerts, performances, among other events, which delight the assistants such as the Holy Eucharist and the procession in honour of Virgin María Auxiliadora accompanied by the Osuna music band.

Ntra. Sra. De Consolación Pilgrimage

At the first dawn of the day, a great number of people come together to the church where you can find the “simpecado” . This image goes on a pilgrimage from the church to the area of the “Calvario”, about 12 kms away from the town. Families are in contact with nature and they enjoy a great day in the countryside.

During this event there is a special atmosphere with spectacular colourful floats, as well as unique traditions and symbols, such as praying the rosary at the beginning of the way back or singing the typical “sevillanas” during the arrival at the “Cortijo del Rosso” . Finally all the pilgrims called “romeros” arrived to the “Calvario hermitage”.

Patron Saint Ntra. Sra. de Consolación

Date:  September, 8th

This carving belongs to the 16th century and it was brought from England by Mr. Juan Téllez Girón, the fourth Count of Ureña, in order to save the image from the plunder suffered by the reform of Henry VIII.  The procession of “Nuestra Señora de Consolación”, the patron saint of the town, takes place each 8th September since 1624.

Furthermore, the neighbourhood where the headquarters of the “Consolación” brotherhood are located, organizes a festival called “velá” in honour to its patron saint every year.
