CALDENEGROS ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK

Caldenegros Park covers a large area of almost 10,000 square metres. It is located at the foot of the monumental acropolis. The archaeological data provided by this site offer much more comprehensive information about the entire historic centre of Osuna. It is a fundamental reference point for understanding the town's monumental area. Research has provided data on medieval and modern Osuna. Of particular note is an important section of the defensive system, as well as the urban structures associated with it. Even the suburb of Los Negros outside the city walls has been detected.

This process has been fundamental to understanding the area. It has made it possible to document a broad cycle of Osuna's previously unknown medieval past. The founding moments of the wall are detailed, as are the outlying neighbourhoods during the Andalusian period, from the beginning of the Taifa kingdoms in the 11th century. In addition to highlighting the Almoravid and Almohad occupation, as well as the Christian conquest in the mid-13th century. This conquest was consolidated with the presence of the Order of Calatrava, which took on the defence and coordination of the border with the Kingdom of Granada from Osuna, under the dictates of the Crown of Castile.

Caldenegros, as a monumental site, demonstrates the importance of Osuna throughout history. It has also provided a detailed insight into the passage of different cultures and civilisations over the centuries. Thus, it has revealed particularly important information about the life and characteristics of the medieval town. All this from the end of the 10th century to the beginning of the 18th century. Information that was previously unknown.

The space features a landscaped area, highlighting the presence of native species that reflect the environmental setting of that period, predominantly Mediterranean varieties.
