Quarries of Osuna
The former quarries are lands of the former Urso from where workers extracted the stone used for constructions before the Roman occupation. It is known as “The Petra of Andalusia” because of its reliefs.
Surely this rocky substrate has been used as a stone quarry continuously at least since Turdetan times, it seems that its operation would have been intensified following the important constructive works of the IV Count of Ureña in the 16th century until the 60´s decade of the 20th century when it stops working. It was built by mid 17th century and it was the side where the “Via Crucis” ended. Following the model of the Necropolis, the remains of some tombs carved into the rock stand close to the quarries, like a chapel.
Inside, this construction has a magnificent natural auditorium used for celebrations, concerts, cultural events, etc.
